Law & Advocacy
Our Services
Our Law & Advocacy program offers legal information, legal education, as well as ongoing referrals to legal clinics and programs that provide summary legal advice and other legal support.

All of our services are free of charge and come with language support through volunteer-based community interpretation. We currently provide support in Mandarin, Cantonese, and Ukrainian (other language support may provided upon request subject to availability).
Evening Legal Clinic
We provide referral to a free evening legal clinic for you to get summary legal advice in many areas of the law, including but not limited to tenancy, criminal, family, employment and immigration law.

If you qualify for this service, you will be scheduled for a 45-minute appointment to receive advice from a volunteer lawyer to help you understand your rights and responsibilities under the law, your legal options, and what you can do next.
Immigration Law Clinic
We provide referral to a free immigration law clinic for you to receive legal advice and assistance in various immigration law matters including but not limited to:

* Family sponsorship
* Making a claim for refugee protection
* Permanent Residence application
* Applications for work permits, temporary resident visas, and study permits
Employment or Workers Issue
We provide legal information and referral for those facing issues in the workplace such as disputes on wages or overtime, harassment, discrimination, and other unfair practices.
Assistance include but not limited to issues with:

* Employment Standards
* Employment Insurance
* Workplace Injury (WCB)
* Human Rights complaints
* AISH
* Disability Insurance
* CPP Disability
* Sexual Harassment
Wills & Estate for the Elderly
For those aged 65+ years and of low income, we provide referral to an elder law clinic for free legal consultation. The elder law clinic may also assist with the drafting and execution of :
* Personal Directives
* Wills and Estate Planning
* Enduring Powers of Attorney
Criminal Record Suspension
For those looking to apply for a record suspension, we provide legal information and referral to an agency who will assist in this application.
One-on-One Support Services
If you are not sure where to start to address your legal concerns, you can request a one-on-one consultation with us. We provide one-on-one support to individuals who require additional support or follow up assistance before or after obtaining assistance from other resources.

One-on-One support may include but not limited to filling up forms, commissioning affidavits, providing interpretation and translation support.
Community Interpreters Training
We periodically host a training workshop to introduce general legal information and basic legal concepts and terms for those who wants to increase their skill and knowledge for interpretation in the community.
